Still Life
Because life seems to be a progression
of running and being still,
you have been running as I sat still.
Had you lingered in a breath,
had you dwelt until the silence diminished,
had you waited for my feet to gather courage,
you would have heard me plead,
“Be still, I’ll run to you.”
But you didn’t… and I remain still, still.
